WJP Full Color 3D Printing Service
Full-color 3D printing for portraits, pet models, display samples and educational objects. Send complete model and texture files for review of UV mapping, color intent, fragile features, finish and sample approval.
Description
WJP full color 3D printing service is used when color is manufacturing data, not a paint note added after the model is complete. Portraits, pet models, educational pieces and presentation objects may carry thousands of color changes across one surface. The geometry file, UV coordinates and texture images have to arrive as one working package.
An STL cannot carry that package. It describes mesh geometry but not the intended full-color surface. Missing texture files, broken paths, overlapping UVs and an incorrect color space can make a technically printable model visually wrong.
WJP Full Color 3D Printing Service Starts With File Integrity
Different production workflows may accept OBJ with MTL and texture images, VRML/WRL, 3MF or another supported package. The correct choice depends on the software and machine route. Before upload, open the exported manufacturing file on another computer or in a clean folder. If the model loses its color there, the supplier will probably lose it too.
- Keep the model, material file and texture maps together.
- Use stable filenames without changing them after export.
- Confirm scale and units independently from the visual preview.
- Check that every visible surface has valid texture coverage.
- Include reference renders to show intended appearance.

UV Mapping Decides Where the Color Lands
A texture is a two-dimensional image wrapped around a three-dimensional mesh. UV coordinates tell the software which image region belongs to each surface triangle. Stretched UV islands blur detail. Overlapping islands can repeat the wrong feature. A seam through a face, logo or eye may become much more visible on the physical model than in a forgiving screen render.
Inspect the UV layout at the final print scale. A high-resolution photograph does not help if the relevant pixels occupy a tiny part of the map. Fine text and facial detail need enough texture resolution and enough physical surface area to reproduce.
Screen Color Is Not a Printed Color Standard
Monitors emit light. Printed models reflect it through a material and surface finish. Display calibration, texture color space, printer gamut, base material, sealing and room lighting all influence the result. A bright RGB value can print darker or less saturated, and two screens may disagree before manufacturing begins.
For brand colors or skin tones, use a sample and written approval route. Reference images should identify the priority: exact logo direction, natural skin, uniform clothing color or visual match under a chosen light. A render is useful for intent but should not be treated as a spectrophotometer result.
Full Color Does Not Remove Geometry Limits
Color can distract from a weak mesh. Thin ankles, fingers, tails, antennas and accessories still need enough section to survive printing, cleaning, finishing and shipping. A hollow body needs wall continuity and suitable openings. Intersecting shells should be resolved rather than left as visually overlapping surfaces.
Scale changes the decision. A button, eyebrow or engraved line visible on a 300 mm model may disappear or become fragile when the same file is reduced to 80 mm. I prefer simplifying a tiny feature deliberately over discovering after production that it printed as noise.
The White Base and Surface Finish Affect Appearance

WJP is used here as a service label for a full-color, white-base printing route. It should not be confused with a universal ISO process name. The exact machine, material and finishing sequence should be confirmed for the job.
Surface texture changes perceived color. Cleaning and sealing may deepen contrast or alter gloss, while sanding can remove or disturb printed color. A clear protective coat may help handling but can also shift appearance. Define matte, satin or gloss expectations before the sample is approved.
For a WJP full color 3D printing service order, identify any area that may receive hand correction, decals, separate accessories or assembly after printing. Native color and hand finishing can coexist, but they need one appearance plan.
Choose WJP for Visual Information, Not Structural Claims
Full-color printing is well suited to display models, portraits, anatomy or education pieces, architectural models and appearance samples. It should not be selected only because a functional bracket happens to need two colors. Structural performance, heat, impact, outdoor exposure and regulatory requirements may point to another process plus paint, labels or assembly.
Our SLA versus WJP full-color comparison separates appearance, detail and finishing tradeoffs. Return to the custom 3D printing service hub when strength or material matters more than native color.
Sample Approval Needs More Than “Looks Good”
For repeat orders, approve the physical sample with notes. Record model revision, size, texture package, finish, detachable parts, packaging and acceptable appearance range. Photograph the approved sample under consistent lighting, but retain the physical reference when color is important.
If the model uses a person, pet, character, logo or artwork, the buyer must have permission to manufacture it. File ownership and production rights are part of the RFQ, especially for branded OEM batches.
WJP Full Color 3D Printing Service File Checklist
- supported color model package with all linked texture files;
- confirmed units, target dimensions and upright orientation;
- reference renders and photos showing priority colors;
- notes for fragile features, hollow sections and detachable parts;
- matte, satin, gloss or protective coating expectation;
- sample quantity, batch quantity and packaging requirements.
The 3MF Consortium specification documents full-color and multi-material definitions in its Materials and Properties extension. Use the format only when the selected production workflow supports the required extension; otherwise supply the accepted OBJ, VRML or related package intact.
For a manual WJP full color 3D printing service review, send the complete file package, reference images, size, quantity and finish through the RFQ contact page. OEM batches can continue through the custom figurine manufacturing workflow after sample approval.
